The Royal Artillery Yacht Club is delighted to help promote some fantastic opportunities for Gunners to get out on the water in 2027, courtesy of the Army Sailing Association (ASA) and its Army Watersports Centre at Thorney Island, Chichester Harbour.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, an experienced sailor or looking to develop new skills and qualifications, there’s something for everyone!

🌊 LEARN A NEW WATERSPORT
The Army Watersports Centre offers a great range of affordable courses for individuals and units:
- ⛵ Dinghy Sailing – £60 for 2 days
- 🏄 Windsurfing & Wing Foiling – £60 for 2 days
- 🪁 Kitesurfing – £200 for 4 days
- 🚤 Powerboating – £229
- 🤝 Unit Activity Days – £30 per person per day, plus kit hire
Basic accommodation is included, and opportunities are available for both Regulars and Reservists, including weekend activities.

🎓 BECOME A QUALIFIED WATERSPORTS INSTRUCTOR
For Gunners looking for something more adventurous, the ASA is also offering seasonal instructor opportunities in 2027.
- Full season: 1 March – 19 November 2027
- Short season: 1 March – 29 May 2027
These are excellent opportunities to gain recognised instructor qualifications, develop leadership skills and enjoy a rewarding period working on the water. Previous watersports experience isn’t essential for some instructor pathways, and accommodation is provided free of charge.

⚓ WHY NOT GET YOUR UNIT INVOLVED?
The Centre also welcomes unit groups for watersports training, team-building and activity days in the beautiful surroundings of Chichester Harbour.
Over 900 personnel enjoyed activities at the Centre in 2026, and the ASA is keen to welcome even more in 2027.
