Units, serving and retired Club members are invited to attend the 79th annual RAYC keel boat regatta from 9th to 10th July at Seaview Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight. The regatta normally consists of 10 races with Seaview’s 24 foot Mermaid keel boats over the two days. Its a great event with lots of fun sailing for all levels.
ENTRIES & TIMMINGS
Entry fees are £300 per boat (crew up to 3) including temporary membership of crew who are not members of the RAYC. Teams are expected to be at SVYC by 0900hrs on Wed 9 Jul 25. The race briefing will take place at 0930hrs on the 9th July. The event normally ends after the prize giving at around 15.00hrs on 10th July. Each boat must be skippered by a competent helm with RYA dinghy qualification or RYA Day Skipper.
TROPHIES
Commodore’s Trophy. The Commodore’s Trophy is awarded to the winning crew in the Regatta representing RA Units, RA Headquarters, RA Organisations and a RAYC crewed boat.
Crane-Mills Cup. The Crane-Mills Cup will be awarded to the highest placed RA unit crew in the Commodore’s Trophy fleet if they do not come first.
Ryde Cup. The Ryde Cup is awarded to the most successful “retired” RAYC members crew. Note that the helm and at least one crew member must be a retired RAYC member.
The Morton-Wood Friends’ Trophy. Awarded to the highest placed RA unit crew not eligible for the Commodore’s Trophy or the Crane-Mills Trophy.
The Mermaid Trophy. Awarded to a RA unit crew introducing sailors to keelboat racing at Seaview yacht Club for the first time
ACCOMMODATION & FOOD
Accommodation is available at local hotels, and there is a campsite at Nodes Point that charges £50 per pitch for up to four people. Lunches can be ordered at the Club for approximately £7 per person, and there will be a BBQ supper on July 9th at a cost of £16 per person.
CLOTHING
The club will provide buoyancy aids. Wet weather gear is the responsibility of each individual or unit. Participants should bring extra warm layers as needed, along with a hat, sunglasses, towel, and a change of clothing. Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted in the boats. If obtaining sailing jackets and trousers is proving difficult, please speak with the RC(D) or the undersigned at the earliest opportunity so that an alternative solution can be found.
TRAVEL
There is a frequent ferry service from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde, or a hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde. Further details are available from SVYC on 01983 613268 or email info@seaviewmermaids.co.uk.
