Members Vote in Favour of Plans to Replace St Barbara V

Members at our recent AGM voted unanimously in favour of proceeding with plans to replace St Barbara V with a new offshore yacht. The meeting also endorsed moving forward at pace, recognising the importance of securing the right vessel should it become available within the next 3–6 months. This decisive outcome marks an important step forward for the club, ensuring that its offshore sailing capability continues to evolve while maintaining the high standards of training, participation, and performance that members value.

The decision followed an excellent presentation from Lt Colonel James Boutle, along with engaging contributions from members both in person at Larkhill and those who joined online via Teams. The presentation set out a clear and well-considered framework, identifying a range of suitable pre-owned offshore yachts capable of meeting the club’s operational, training, and financial requirements. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring the replacement vessel would support Category 1 and 2 sailing, remain accessible for members to sail and charter, offer competitive racing potential without being a pure racing yacht, and represent a sound financial investment.

The committee will now move forward with plans to refine a shortlist of suitable boats that meet the agreed criteria and be ready to act should the right opportunity arise.
