Great Racing at the 2025 RAYC Dinghy Regatta

Units from across the Royal Artillery competed in our annual dinghy regatta at Thorney Island on Thursday 17th July, under the watchful guidance of Major Stuart Deakin. The regatta was also the culmination of a week of basic dinghy training, and with most of the entrants complete novices to the sport at the start of the week.

The main races took place in the afternoon. And as the tide came into Chichester Harbour, we were joined by the RAYC’s flagship, St Barbara V, with skipper Ed Middleton, who was leading a course for competent crew and day skippers.

The regatta was concluded with prize giving and an excellent BBQ provided by Jed Cunningham and his team at the water sports centre. The full list of results will soon be available via a link on this page.

Many thanks for the organsation of Stuart Deakin and his race officer, Nik Barnes. The event provides a great way for many junior soldiers to get into sailing, and along with board and kite surfing, is a primary focus of the Club, with our vision of progressing junior soldiers through all the sailing disciplines, with a final goal of providing a wide range of offshore sailing and training opportunities with our two offshore yachts.
